The savage passions that stir a sort of spiritual hell, are reflected in the clothes and accessories created by Italian designer Barbara Bologna, creative mind behind the brand AREA.
Inferno” is the end of a descent that Barbara started within the human soul through her previous collection; beginning with a reflection on the meaning of freedom and redemption in “O Purgatoire“, A/W11, then focusing on the ambiguity of the waiver in”Paradise”, S/S12, eventually coming to reveal the glorious defeat of human’s will against the majestic of men’s ancestral brutality in “Inferno”. The material par excellence, chosen by AREA’s designer to narrate this kind of Danteasque introspective journey, is the leather, raw and distressed, which coil around a body fully covered by tattoos, symbols of indelible memories left by the infernal experience. The metropolitan limbo that imprisions the contemporary man, is translated into dramatic silhouettes, still highly wearable. Men and women are in the same painful condition, allegorically expressed through the pieces’ unisex design. But the deepest desperation exorcises the fear of what is “new”, turning into a propulsive opening to the future, an unknown dimension to which the designs of Barbara Bologna truly belong.
