Antique shops are like time capsules. The old objects and furniture make different ages coexist within the same dimension by telling their very own stories. Fabrics have the same evocative power.
Sourcing rare antique textiles from all around the world, By Walid uses clothing as a tool to keep alive the beauty of the past. Each season, Walid Damirji, designer behind the brand, focuses on reworking wonderful vintage fabrics into contemporary pieces. By Walid‘s collections are made of one-of -a-kind designs that feature a luxurious range of primal materials. 18th and 19th century fabrics such as embroidered Chinese silks are hand-stitched together to create inventive patchworks that come in contemporary silhouette. Walid literally breathes new life into the old and the forgotten by producing wearable pieces of art that embody the concept of sustainability and upcycling. For the Fall / Winter 2015 By Walid showcases hand-dyed indigo garments that includes precious details such as fur linings and antique laces trims. The designer introduces also a range of recycled denim outfits in which he used all the parts of the fabric without wasting anything of the original cloth.
