Jan Jan Van Essche – Collection #6 No Man Is An Island

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

Belgian designer Jan Jan Van Essche knows that human beings necessarily depend on one another and are in constant connection to their surroundings. This spiritual consciousness defines his way of living life and clearly shows through his clothing. Despite the fast-paced rhythm of contemporary fashion industry, Jan Jan Van Essche‘s creations are made in praise of slowness. Each piece originates from an extensive research on primal materials, often inspired by Jan Jan‘s travels and fascination with tribal cultures. Featuring rough fabrics such as crispy linen, cotton and hand-woven hemp yarns, the garments have a timeless appeal that faithfully reflects the designer’s aseasonal approach to fashion design. The artisanal production and respect for the textiles’ original textures give to every garment an history and a “soul”. In Collection #6Jan Jan focused on minimizing the patterns and design connotations to achieve an essential yet sleek look that leaves plenty of room to the wearer’s own interpretation. A usage of natural colors highlight the clothes organic feeling, while loose forms assure maximum comfort and complete freedom of movement. Relaxed without being slouchy or shabby, Jan Jan Van Essche keeps on refining his minimalist style identity, growing its brand slowly in an healthy and sustainable way.
