Uma Wang – Fall / Winter 2016 – 2017

Uma Wang gives military structure to romantic emotions.

The Chinese designer glimpses inside the heart of a Renaissance knight to design a collection in which power and fragility stand as one. With special emphasis on the tactile quality of fabrics, the garments feature a wide range of precious and utilitarian yarns that have been cracked, felted polished and waxed to achieve rich textures. The military uniform and the noble gown come together to create hybrid outerwear pieces at once opulent and functional. Brocades and Edwardian-inspired patterns cover wide-cut trousers and inserts that break down the stiff silhouettes of long jackets and coats in pinstripe wool, paired with silk dresses and long skirts with paper lining. The lavish color palette includes hues of green, brown and black mixed with deep red and gold finishing. Filled with poetry and beauty, Uma‘s works are timeless like oil paintings.
