The voice of Yohji Yamamoto singing while playing acoustic guitar echoed within the gloriously gilded gallery of Paris Bourse de Commerce. Raindrops leeked from the tall, glass dome cealing, setting the stormy mood of the Spring / Summer 2017 collection: predominately black, masterfully deconstructucted, oddily sophisticated, quintessentially Yohji Yamamoto. In Yamamoto’s perfect tempest everything is carefully improvised, yet nothing is left to chance. Wrapped, knotted, and displaced, the outfits were ment to suggest a kinf of conceptual randomness, highlighting the versatility of single pieces, which can be worn in many different ways. Asymmetrical cuts, jackets and twisted skirts seemed to came out stright from a tornado, and shirts with missing sleeves and bondage ribbons inextricably linked the garment to the skin in a punk romantic way. Brusts of white and red crossed the absolute darkness of the color palette like lightnings, while a thunder storm artfully shaped the models’ messy hairstyles.
